Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai (VN)

The Vietnamese author Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai has recently had her international bestselling and critically acclaimed novel The Mountains Sing (Når bjergene synger) translated into Danish. An epic multigenerational tale of the Trần family’s life during the Vietnam War. Through three generations of women the novel depicts the horrors of war and the hope that, despite everything, sprouts in the middle of the destruction.

The Danish translation of Quế Mai’s novel Dust Child (Hvor asken blomstrer) will be published in June. A novel that also revolves around the aftermath of the war and people’s struggle to find hope and belonging. Through three destinies – two sisters, an orphaned son, and a former soldier – past and present are woven together in a powerful story from Vietnam.

Quế Mai has received several Vietnamese and international literary awards for her works.
