This summer, the Japanese author Erika Kobayashi will be releasing the Danish translation of her novel Trinity, Trinity, Trinity. The novel follows three generations of women in Japan and depicts how the legacy of nuclear power and war still marks both body, mind, and society. It takes places in a Japan getting ready for the Olympics in 2020 where a strange illness called “Trinity” spreads among the elderly. Personal stories are woven together with global and historical memory – from Hiroshima to Fukushima.

Kobayashi’s writing combines the documentary and the speculative in a sensuous and poetic language. She examines time, memory, and women’s lives and her works are often concerned with the invisible traces in history and the body. Kobayashi is also a visual artist, and her visual works often reflect the same themes as her literary works.
